After resignation day, I had one week break before joining my new workplace, which was EVOS Esports Indonesia. That was the slowest and most relaxing week I have ever had. I subscribed to Netflix right after I resigned so I spent the whole week binge watching series in Netflix lol: Money Heist, How I Met Your Mother, Friends, American Horror Story, and so on.
My first day in EVOS was quite odd. The office was deserted and my direct supervisor is my friend, who previously was my senior in KPMG Indonesia. My office orientation was through Google Meet and afterward my friend and another colleague explained to me a little bit about the job and then the three of us had lunch together. I went home at 3 PM and took a quick nap because of a sudden headache. I think that was the first time that I was exposed to sunlight for more than 10 minutes after a week full of Netflix.
After that, it was 6 months of fun. Well, I got kinda serious during audit period but working there was the most relaxing work I have ever had. I was actually kinda sad to tell my friend that I was going to resign. I’m pretty confident to say that I bonded really well and in such a fast period, and it is most likely because we have similar sense of humor lol.
It was when working for EVOS that I started to look for opportunities to study abroad. I had so much time that I could write motivation letter, browse for universities that still open admission, and arrange to authorize the required documentation. None of this would’ve been possible had I still work for KPMG Indonesia. I don’t have bad feeling toward KPMG Indonesia, it’s just that the workload is so tight that it’s almost impossible for me (especially with my easily distracted mind) to have a side hustle.
Covid-19 has been really testing on everyone’s nerves. I learned to be patient, hopeful, but at the same time tried not to get my hopes up. I still can’t believe that I finally managed to depart from Indonesia in 2020. Today is 31 December 2020.
